This reformulation of Urban Decay’s eye shadow features even softer, amazingly velvety texture; richer, more dense and decadent color; smoother, more uniform pigment distribution and blendability; and longer-lasting, more crease-free wear. The new line of shadows features a completely revamped assortment of shades, new textures, and a totally redesigned token compact.
Urban Decay’s newly re-formulated eye shadows come in nearly 70 different shades. This review is for the shade Pistol, which Urban Decay describes as a light greyish brown shimmer.
Urban Decay’s updated packaging is made of silver plastic that looks like metal. The compacts have see-through, snap-shut lids. Overall, the packaging is more sleek and just as light-weight as before.
Pistol is a shimmery, deep grey color. The color isn’t completely opaque, and actually displays some streakiness on the first layer. Adding additional layers does allow you to get a stronger color and smooth finish.
This formula isn’t chalky or powdery, but it is slightly stiff and dry. The company claims the shadow’s new formula is softer and has a velvety texture, but I don’t find it’s quite true for Pistol.
The shadow creased by the 3rd hour when applied over bare skin, which is actually pretty good, considering most eye shadows need a primer to resists creasing for that long. But what I found disappointing is that it creased after 4 hours over a primer. This is about 2 hours short of how long I’d say a good-quality powder shadow should last over a primer.
Ease of Use: 8.75/10
This formula isn’t as soft as I’d prefer. It actually applies better (with less unevenness) with a fluffy brush than it does with a dense, flat brush. Regardless, you may find yourself adding multiple layers to get a flattering finish.
For $18.00 you get 0.05 ounces of shadow. This is the expected price and amount of product for an eye shadow from an Urban Decay-equivalent brand.
