Made from 100% pure minerals, these loose shadows give eyes an instant dose of color and brightness. Use them dry for a subtly elegant look, or wet for a boldly radiant effect. Concentrated so a little sprinkle goes a long way!
Youngblood is a mineral cosmetics brand that currently sells 16 permanent shades of its Crushed Mineral Eyeshadow. 6 of the shades are Shimmer, 5 are Satin, and 5 are Matte.
This review is for the shade Haze, which is a “matte taupe” from the Matte family.
Crushed Mineral Eyeshadows come in tiny, cylindrical jars made of clear plastic that have a black, twist-off lid. There is a sifter inside with tiny holes in it. The packaging is small for my taste–it makes handling the jar slightly awkward. The openings in the sifter are also too small. You have to tap the jar 5-10 times to dispense enough product to cover one eyelid.
This is a straight-forward brown with a taupe hue running through it. The color leaves a matte finish.
The powder’s individual particles are miniscule, but there is a slight patchiness to the application when used on bare skin or over primer. The pigment was much smoother when I used this over a base (Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow).
The pigmentation is good and, unlike with the Metallic colors, I wouldn’t use the shadow wet. Not only is it unnecessary (since you don’t need to enhance the pigmentation) but it will make application very splotchy.
Ease of Use: 8.75/10
I don’t have problems with fall-out while using this color. Blending can require the addition of layers, though, because a single layer tends to end up looking patchy unless you’re using a base underneath.
For $20.00 you get 2 grams (0.07 ounces) of pigment. For the same price, MAC pigments give you 4.5 grams of product. You get a small amount for the price you pay. One mitigating factor is that Youngblood is a mineral brand, which usually charge more.
