A revolutionary new lip product that combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long-wear of a stain. Coat your lips with this lip color that offers a lightweight texture, which immediately melts onto lips. Glossy Stain delivers intense glossy color for an extremely long-lasting shine.
Yves Saint Laurent’s newest lip product is a gloss satin that comes in 20 different shades. The shade Rouge Gouache–a vibrant, pinky crimson–is reviewed, below.
YSL’s Glossy Stains come in elegant, rectangular plastic tubes that have a small rectangular see-through window showing the color inside. The handles are gold plastic with the YSL logo embossed on it.
This gloss comes with a flat, pointed doe-foot applicator.
Rouge Gouache is an extremely vibrant color that applies semi-opaquely.
The formula is fairly light-weight and has medium emollience. The gloss has no stickiness to it.
This gloss stain really does adhere to the lips and resists transferring. It dries to a surface that looks almost plastic, as if the top layer is holding in the color underneath. But there’s no odd or unpleasant feeling to the gloss and I’ve never come across a gloss that seems to be sealed in underneath like this Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain.
Amazingly, this gloss keeps its color, texture, and glossy finish, even through drinking and eating. I ate a full meal and saw only minimal fading. Only after wearing the gloss for about 4 hours and eating and drinking did I think about touching up the color.
This gloss does have a sweet fruity smell of medium strength, so if you’re very sensitive to smells, you should pass on this gloss.
Ease of Use: 8.75/10
Because this color is so vibrant, you have to be slow with application to apply the product precisely. The pointed doe-foot applicator helps you get around the edges of the lips precisely.
The product transfers easily onto the lips, but if you want an opaque or truly even surface, you’ll need to apply 2 coats, allowing the first to dry before applying the second.
For $32.00 you get 0.2 ounces of gloss. Comparable high-end brands that offer gloss stains are Ellis Faas and Hourglass. Ellis Faas’ Glazed Lips cost $35.00 and contain 0.095 ounces. Hourglass’ Aura Sheer Lip Stains cost $26.00 and contain 0.1 ounces. Amazingly, YSL gives you more for your money compared to the other 2 brands. There aren’t yet a lot of high end brands offering gloss stains; hopefully there will be more soon.
