TokyoMilk is a perfume brand created by internationally-renowned perfumer and designer Margot Elena. The brand is best known for creating unusual scents. In addition to eau de parfums, the company offers 3 Lip Elixirs.
This review is for the Lip Elixir in Clove Cigarette, which is part of TokyoMilk’s Dark Femme Fetale collection.
TokyoMilk’s Lip Elixirs come in round, tin cans with slid-off lids. The packaging is lightweight, and the tops fit fairly securely. The tin is black and decorated with the TokyoMilk brand name and some grey design flourishes. The lid is initially held on with a strip of tape, which you can easily peel back. Like with all of TokyoMilk’s packaging, this can is sleek, masculine, and sophisticated.
You have to apply the product with your fingers, which isn’t sanitary, but it remains a common packaging form for lip balms.
Clove Cigarette smells strongly of cloves, but your nose adapts to the scent quite quickly, and I forgot about it after a minute of wearing the balm.
The formula for this balm is identical to Vaseline, which makes sense since the first ingredient listed is petrolatum. There is wax and some oils mixed in too, but it essentially has the consistency of pressed Vaseline. Consequently, the balm protects the surface of your lips, but it isn’t moisturizing. The balm also isn’t long-wearing. It will stay on my lips for up to 2 hours. This is how long an average lip gloss usually lasts and I feel like a thicker product like this balm should last at least a little longer.
Overall, I’m underwhelmed by this Lip Elixir. It is only $7.00, and you get a lot of product (0.7 ounces), but it needs to be more moisturizing for me to want to re-purchase it.
