Benefit Ultra Plush Lip Gloss in Coralista

Availability: Sephora, ULTA, Benefit
Price: $16.00

Company’s Description

This dazzling lip gloss drenches your lips in brilliant shine and a burst of juicy color that’s never sticky. Loaded with crystal brilliance, color glides on smooth. Just one stroke will give you glimmering, shimmering lips!

Benefit has just released 6 Ultra Plush Lip Glosses, which complement 6 of the company’s most popular Box O’ Powder Blushes. You can view swatches of all 6 colors, including images of each color applied to the lips, here.

This review is specifically for the shade Coralista–a sheer coral.

Packaging: 9/10

This gloss comes in a soft, plastic tube with a slanted, plastic applicator.

Quality: 8.25/10

Coralista looks like a bright, strong coral in the tube. Once on the lips, Coralista barely tints the lips; the coral hue doesn’t show through.

The formula is extremely emollient, has medium thickness, and brings moisture to your lips. The gloss feels soft and smooth and isn’t sticky. Even after the gloss has come off, it leaves behind a protective layer on the lips, helping to keep them moisturized after the gloss has faded.

The gloss has a sweet smell, but it isn’t strong, so even people sensitive to scents should be able to wear this gloss.

You get about an hour of wear before the shimmer and product wears off on the lips.

Overall, I’m very underwhelmed with this product. I wish the color were stronger, especially since Benefit claims this gloss will give you a “burst of juicy color.” I also wish the color had some shimmer, like the blush does. The gloss has a good formula, but the effect on the lips isn’t unique, special, or even that noticeable.

Ease of Use: 9.75/10

This gloss doesn’t have strong pigmentation and is translucent in color, so application doesn’t require a mirror. The gloss glides onto the skin easily and evenly.

Price: 9/10

For $16.00 you get 0.5 ounces of product. This is the average amount of product you’d expect out of a tube gloss and a mid-range price.

Can I offer a little constructive criticism? I enjoy your blog, and I love that you do lip swatches but I feel that you either don’t apply enough of the product to really give an idea of what the shade really looks like or the pic gets washed out somehow, prob. something to do with lighting conditions? It’s easier to tell what the color looks like from your arm swatches and I know that doing lip swatches is added work so it seems to me it’d be worth it to apply a little heavier and really showcase the color. I realise some colors are naturally sheer and it’s good to show that in those cases.
I apologize if this comes off wrong, it’s just something I’ve noticed and I hope you don’t mind me saying something.
I really do appreciate the work you put into your blog and I love your reviews and eye swatches and I especially love how quickly you swatch and review new products!

I appreciate the advice. I really concentrate on doing realistic, accurate pictures that are true to how a color looks like in real life. I do the arm and lip swatches so that you can see the difference in pigmentation. With this shade in Coralista, it just isn’t pigmented once applied to the lips, even though I’ve fully coated them with the product.
