Company’s Description

Sun Bum SPF 30 Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion shields your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays to prevent damage to your skin during sun exposure. Vitamin E helps combat free-radical damage from causing premature signs of aging. The water-resistant formula makes it ideal to wear during outdoor activities.

Sun Bum is a lifestyle brand of sun protection formulas for the outdoors enthusiast. Their Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion comes in four (4) levels of sun protection and is said to protect the skin from radiation while also being water-resistant. This review is for the Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion in SPF 30.

This sunscreen comes in a medium-sized, flat, faux-wood bottle with a click-open cap. You squeeze the bottle to dispense the product from the cap. The cap on my bottle seems to be a little loose, so it closes very easily even if I’m intending to get product out of the bottle. The packaging is opaque, which keeps the ingredients inside protected.

The formula for this sunscreen is fantastic. It’s creamy without feeling tacky, greasy, or oily, the way many sunscreens do. The texture is closer to a cream lotion than your traditional sunblock. The formula sinks into the skin and doesn’t leave a noticeable film on top.

This product does smell a little like sunscreen, but it also has a wonderful coconut smell to it (and I’m not even a huge fan of coconut). Unfortunately, this flattering scent comes from Fragrance being added to the ingredients, which is irritating to the skin. I’d strongly recommend not using this product on the face because of the irritation and long-term damage it can do to the skin if used regularly.

The product stays on the skin fairly well through the day. It’s not a waterproof formula, so you do want to re-apply after a few hours of wear if you’re in the sun and immediately after drying off if you get in the water.

Overall, this sunscreen has a great formula and effectively protects against both UVA and UVB rays. But the inclusion of fragrance bumps the grade for this sunscreen from an A down to a B.

So do you mean this sunscreen causes damage from irritation or by the fragrance in it? I’ve been wanting to buy it as my face sunscreen.

Yes, generally speaking, you should avoid product with fragrance in them (at least ones you put on your face) because they cause irritation to the skin.
