This review is for Aveda’s Nourish-Mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Kukui, which released with the Spring 2013 Art of Nature collection. The limited edition shade Kukui is a shiny, cinnamon brown color.
Packaging: 9/10
Aveda’s makeup comes in eco-friendly, minimalist packaging. The lip gloss comes housed in a small, cardboard box. The lipgloss itself is contained in a clear, cylindrical, plastic tube and contains a doe-foot applicator.
Quality: 8.5/10
Kukui looks like a very dark brown-red in the tube. The shade is more versatile in use. If applied sheer, you get a translucent red wine shade. Applied more heavily, you get a brown cinnamon shade. The gloss leaves a sheen on the lips.
The cream formula for this lip gloss is pretty thick. It also has a slight tackiness to it.
The formula is very emollient, which means your lips will feel hydrated and will be protected from the elements while the gloss wears on the lips. This gloss lasts for longer than usual because of the thicker, more tacky formula–about three (3) hours before needing re-application.
Ease of Use: 8.5/10
Because the formula is thicker, this gloss gives some resistance when you’re dragging the doe foot over the skin. Applying the gloss sheer is easy: a little bit of product can be patted into the skin. Applying it in a layered manner is a little more tricky because the shade starts to show some streaks that will need to be smoothed out and blended.
Price: 8.75/10
For $18.00 you get 0.24 ounces (7 grams) of product.
