This review is for Aveda’s Petal Essence Face Accents, which released with the Spring 2013 Art of Nature collection. The Petal Essence Face Accents are face powder that are talc- and mineral-oil free. This limited-edition color in Hibiscus includes a nude highlighter, soft coral, and bright coral.
Aveda’s makeup comes in eco-friendly, minimalist packaging. Instead of having a full box or compact, this face powder comes in pan form, is protected by a clear, plastic casing, and is housed inside of a cardboard wrap.
Hibiscus contains a nude highlighter, a peach color with a slight coral tone running through it, and a bright, fiery coral shade. There’s a low level of shimmer running throughout the powder, which gives the skin a subtle sheen.
This powder isn’t overly dry or soft. The color is sheer and subtle on the first layer, but effectively builds in color with subsequent layering. Overall, you get a very wearable, soft coral shade. You can also use the colors individually, or segregate the highlighter from the blush colors. The highlighting shade works as an eye shadow too.
This blush lasted on the cheeks for about six (6) hours, showing a little bit of fading thereafter. I didn’t notice any particular scent infused into the powder.
Ease of Use: 9/10
This powder’s formula first imparts sheer color, but builds up effectively from there. The color you get is smooth and even on the skin, blending well.
For $24.00 you get 0.3 ounces (8.5 grams) of product. MAC’s Blush pans cost $17.00 and contain 0.21 ounces. This means that Aveda’s face powder is actually only slightly more per ounce of product, which is a pretty good deal considering Aveda is an eco-friendly brand, which tend to be more expensive.
