This review is for Aveda’s Petal Essence Single Eye Color in Bare Bellis, which released with the Spring 2013 Art of Nature collection, along with five (5) other eye shadow shades. Bare Bellis is a satiny, baby pink shade.
Aveda’s makeup comes in eco-friendly, minimalist packaging. Instead of having a full box or compact, this face powder comes in pan form, is protected by a clear, plastic casing, and is housed inside of a cardboard wrap.
Bare Bellis is a slightly dusty (or grey-based) baby pink shade with a low level of shimmer to its finish. The color has good pigmentation and a translucent finish. Because of the soft and slightly dusty nature of this shade, it’s very wearable, despite technically being a “pink” color.
This eye shadow doesn’t seem to be soft or creamy in the pan, but it transfers quite smoothly once you apply it onto the skin. It retains its color through the blending process and packs color effectively onto the lid.
The most impressive thing about this eye shadow is how long-wearing it is. Even without primer applied, it took six (6) hours for this color to start showing signs of creasing and fading. With primer applied underneath, there were no signs of fading or creasing until almost nine (9) hours of wear.
Ease of Use: 9.75/10
This eye shadow blends smoothly through the crease and packs onto the lid without any trouble. You don’t even need to apply primer underneath if you are wearing the shadow for less than six (6) hours.
For $14.00 you get 0.04 ounces (1.25 grams) of product. MAC’s eye shadow pans cost $12.00 and contain 0.05 ounces. Natural and organic brands tend to cost more.
