Let eyes blossom, with our flower wax-infused, soft-to-the-touch shadow. A silky powder-both color-true and crease-resistant-that builds and blends effortlessly, surrounded by a soft floral aroma.
This review is for Aveda’s Petal Essence Single Eye Color in Oceanica, which released with the Spring 2013 Art of Nature collection, along with five (5) other eye shadow shades. Oceanica is a satiny, bright, island blue shade.
Aveda’s makeup comes in eco-friendly, minimalist packaging. Instead of having a full box or compact, this face powder comes in pan form, is protected by a clear, plastic casing, and is housed inside of a cardboard wrap.
In the pan, Oceanica is a bright, medium, ocean blue color with small silver shimmer particles. Once applied to the skin, the blue is lighter and translucent, with a very subtle shimmery finish. The color has good pigmentation but won’t give you a bold or opaque finish.
This eye shadow doesn’t seem to be soft or creamy in the pan, but it transfers decently once you apply it onto the skin. You may need to apply multiple layers into the crease to get a stronger finish.
Without primer applied, the color lost some of its vibrancy and faded a little in the crease area after about three (3) hours. With primer applied underneath, there was no creasing until after about seven (7) hours of wear.
Ease of Use: 8.75/10
This eye shadow blends smoothly through the crease, but you may need to go back to apply more color.
For $14.00 you get 0.04 ounces (1.25 grams) of product. MAC’s eye shadow pans cost $12.00 and contain 0.05 ounces. Natural and organic brands tend to cost more.
