L’Oreal’s new La Laque and La Matte lip products are said to be lipsticks and lip liners in one. The new line is divided into 4 matte and 4 lacquer colors. This review is for the La Laque in shade 412 Laquer-Ized, which is a vibrant fuchsia shade.
This lip color comes in a thin, cylindrical, plastic tube that is the same color as the lip product inside. The tube twists to reveal more product.
Laquer-Ized is a bold fuchsia color with no shimmer and a vinyl-like finish. The color is opaque and the formula has a bit of thickness to it. I wouldn’t say the product is sticky, but it does have an almost-tacky quality to it. The texture didn’t bother me, but did require some getting used to.
The formula lasts for a long time, particularly for a lip product that has a glossy finish. While the product is not transfer-resistant, I think the thicker formula makes the color durable even though some of the product will come off while you’re eating or drinking. I wore this color for over 3 hours, even with light drinking and eating, and still didn’t feel the need to re-apply. Even when you wipe the color off, it leaves a stain behind on the lips.
The formula does have sort of a funky scent to it–sort of like sweet plastic. It didn’t bother me once I was wearing the lipstick, but it might bother someone who’s ultra-sensitive to fragrances.
Ease of Use: 9.5/10
Even though this color is extremely bold, I found it very easy to apply the product precisely because of the narrowed tip of the lipstick. This, over time, will become more rounded, so try to apply the product using one side of the end of the tube to keep the pointed end.
For around $8.00, you get 0.03 ounces (0.9 grams) of product. For a lipstick, this is significantly less product than you’d typically get with a drugstore brand, and it’s also on the more expensive side. That said, this product is pretty unique, so it’s hard to make a good comparison to a typical lipstick.
