This review is for MAC’s 224 Tapered Blending Brush–a medium domed brush for controlled eye shadow application. Keep reading for images and my thoughts on this brush.
MAC’s 224 is made of medium-length (about 1/2 inch long), black bristles arranged in a domed shape. The bristles are not as soft as MAC’s white-haired brushes, but the 224 is by no means scratchy or coarse on the skin.
The brush looks like it would be best for a diffused application and blending/buffing, but it applies a surprisingly concentrated level of color for a domed, fluffy brush. I was surprised at the strength of the line I got when I applied shadow into the crease with this brush and it didn’t blend as effectively as MAC’s 217 Blending Brush. I’m guessing this is the effect MAC is referencing when it describes the 224 as giving a “controlled” eye shadow application. This is the kind of brush more suited for defining the crease, as opposed to for diffusing color along the crease.
