A liquid-powder Eye Shadow with prismatic reflections in ten shimmering tints. Impact ranges from sheer crystallized light to a highly polished metallic effect. Lasts up to 6 hours.
This review is for the 3 new, limited-edition Extra Dimension Eye Shadows releasing with MAC’s Magnetic Nude Collection for Winter 2013. This post includes photographs and swatches of the following colors:
- Silver Dawn: mid-tone gray mauve
- Platinum Love: bright silver
- Amourous Alloy: deep terracotta copper
These shadows come in standard MAC packaging but are slightly larger than normal MAC shadow compacts. The compacts are plastic and come with snap-shut, flip-up tops. The pans have the MAC logo and a wave design embossed on them.
Silver Dawn is a taupe-brown with a metallic, shimmery finish. Despite MAC’s description that this shade is mauve, there’s no mauve tone to this color.
Platinum Love is a frosty white with a silver undertone. This shade is more shimmer than underlying color when compared to the other 2 shades.
Amourous Alloy is a terracotta copper with a metallic, shimmery finish.
These 3 shades have good pigmentation and apply smoothly onto the skin.
The Extra Dimension formula isn’t like anything else you can find in MAC’s standard eye shadow line-up. The formula is airy and somewhat dry to the touch.
MAC claims that these eye shadows last “up to” six (6) hours. Using a primer, I saw the teeniest bit of creasing after three (3) hours, but for practical purposes there’s no noticeable creasing even after six (6) hours. Without a primer, there is definite (but not horrible) creasing after three (3) hours of wear. After five (5) hours, the color does fade slightly too. These don’t crease as easily as MAC’s Metal-X shadows, but do crease more quickly than MAC’s standard shadows.
Ease of Use: 9.5/10
These eye shadows transfer well onto the skin and apply smoothly.
For $19.50 you get 2 grams (0.07 ounces) of eye shadow. Regular MAC shadows cost $15.00 and contain 1.5 grams (0.05 ounces). You get slightly more product per dollar with the Magnetic Nude shadows.
