Maybelline has just released five (5) Color Tattoo Metal 24 Hr Eyeshadow shades to the Color Tattoo line of gel/cream shadows. This review is for the shade Silver Strike–a shimmery, classic silver.
These shadows come in glass jars with plastic, twist-off lids. The lids twist off and close tightly to help keep the product from drying out.
Silver Strike is a classic silver shade, on the pale side, that leaves a frosty finish.
The formula has a smooth, cream consistency. The product sets to a dry finish soon after application. As a side-note, the formula will become less creamy after a couple of months. This will happen even if you keep the lid tightly closed.
My thoughts about Silver Strike are almost identical to my thoughts about Gold Rush. Though the shade has a smooth consistency, the finish this color gives is more grainy than with the other shimmery colors in the Maybelline Color Tattoo line, which have more refined shimmer particles. It leaves a patchy layer of shimmer particles and is much better suited as a base than it is as a stand-alone color. Once patted onto the lid, the color works well to leave a very shimmery layer of color. Silver Strike doesn’t produce quite as much fall-out as Gold Rush does.
This shade does a pretty good job when it comes to being long-wearing, but is clearly less crease-resistant than its original Maybelline Color Tattoo counter-parts. The color fades in the crease area after about two (2) hours when applied over bare skin and after about four (4) hours when applied over primer. The creasing begins after about three hours when applied over bare skin and after six (6) hours when applied over a primer.
Ease of Use: 8.75/10
Because the formula starts off creamy and smooth, the product applies easily onto the lids when you use a patting motion. The color doesn’t blend as smoothly in the crease, mostly because of the glitter texture to the color.
For around $8.00, you get 4 grams of shadow. MAC Paint Pots contain 5 grams of shadow and cost $18.50, while MAC Metal-X Cream Shadows cost $20.00 and contain 2.4 grams. Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadows cost $19.00 and contain 4.5 grams.
