A stunning 10-shade summer palette with brush. Turn up the drama or keep it low-key: this beautiful palette offers 10 on-trend shades in a luxe wet-dry formula to create everything from naturally pretty eyes to amped-up glam looks.
Smashbox’s new Heat Wave Eye Shadow Palette has arrived for Summer 2013. It includes ten (10) eye shadow colors and a dual-ended shadow/liner brush.
This palette comes in a medium-sized, rectangular, beige-sliver compact that flips open and contains a full-sized mirror inside.
This palette contains a mixture of mostly warm-toned neutrals and subtly more colorful shades. The palette also has a good balance of shimmery and matte finishes.
The most pigmented shade is the pale, frosty pink shade in the bottom left corner of the palette. The formula for this color is buttery and gives off a high amount of sheen. The burnt coral and gold shades from the top row, as well as the three middle shades from the bottom row have a less buttery formula and require some layering and blending to get more color payoff and an even finish. The two matte shades from the top row aren’t opaque, but do have good color and go on fairly smoothly.
Overall, I think this is a good Summer-time palette that gives you flexibility and options in terms of both finishes and colors.
Ease of Use: 8.75/10
None of these colors is a chore to work with, though some of the shades do require some layering and buffing to get a smooth finish.
For $48.00 you get ten (10) shades for a total of 0.59 ounces of product. Given the amount of product you’re getting, this palette is actually cheaper per ounce of eye shadow than comparable palettes from brands like Too Faced, Kat Von D, and LORAC.
