This review is for CoverGirl’s new TruMagic The Sunkisser Skin Perfector Bronzer, which is a gel-formula bronzer that’s said to be suitable for all skin types.
This bronzer comes in a square, plastic compact with a snap-shut, clear lid. The product also comes with a sponge applicator, but doesn’t have a compartment for the sponge.
This can be a good contouring product, if you use it correctly.
The bronzer has a silicone-gel formula that feels very slick on the surface–like a silicone-based primer would. The bronzer has a yellow undertone, which works great for people who have warm or neutral undertones, but might look unnatural on people with pink undertones. The product dies down to a matte finish, even though it looks balmy on initial application.
When I first tested this bronzer, I applied it to my skin when I wasn’t wearing foundation (I just had my moisturizer and sunscreen applied). Under these conditions, this product performed poorly. It slipped around on the skin so that you couldn’t effectively build up or blend out the color. The formula left the skin looking patchy and with borders of color that couldn’t be diffused with a brush.
The second time I tested this bronzer, I applied it over a liquid foundation. It performed much better, probably because it had the foundation to stick to. I actually really liked the finish of this bronzer when used over a foundation. The translucent quality makes for natural contouring. There was some fading after 3-4 hours of wear, but not a significant amount.
Ease of Use: 8/10
This product only really works if you apply it over a liquid or cream foundation. So, if you’re a powder foundation user, or if you don’t wear foundation, you should skip this bronzer. Otherwise, this formula blends and layers pretty easily. It takes a little more work to diffuse the edges of the color and you might have to get used to the texture.
For $10.99, you get 0.27 ounces of product.
