e.l.f.’s new Essential line Smudge Pots are gel-formula eye shadows, available in 9 different shades. This review is for all 9 of the following shades:
- Pearls Of Wisdom
- Aint That Sweet?
- Cruisin Chic
- Gotta Glow
- Back To Basics
- Brownie Points
- Poppin Party
- Ocean Bound
- Hit The Town
These shadows come in clear, plastic jars with twist-off lids. The jars themselves have thick walls, so that the product inside occupies much less space than the jar takes up. The openings into the jar are small and it makes it difficult to get the product out of the jar with your fingers.
Pearls Of Wisdom is a frosty white. Aint That Sweet? is a pale baby pink with silver shimmer. Cruisin Chic is a fawn brown with a metallic sheen. Gotta Glow is a metallic, pale, yellow-based gold. Back To Basics is a metallic golden bronze. Brownie Points is a medium milk brown with a soft metallic finish. Poppin Party is a rich deep purple with silver micro-shimmer. Ocean Bound is a medium blue with silver micro-shimmer. Hit The Town is a metallic steel grey.
All of the shades have good pigmentation. Aint That Sweet and Gotta Glow are less opaque in finish compared to the other 7 shades.
These eye shadows have a gel/cream formula with a very smooth texture that glides across the skin. The formula blends decently through the crease, and applies well when packed onto the lid. You can also use this product on an angled brush for use as a liner.
The formula also does a good job of resisting creasing. When applied over primer, slight creasing begins after 4-5 hours, but it’s not that noticeable until after 7-8 hours of wear. Aint That Sweet and Pearls of Wisdom seem to start creasing a little sooner than the other shades, and the creasing for Poppin Party, Ocean Bound, and Hit The Town is more noticeable because of the bright nature of those colors.
Overall, these are a great eye shadow product that can be used alone or as bases for powder shadows. And for the price, there’s nothing else on the market that beats their value.
Ease of Use: 9.75/10
The smooth formula applies easily and blends out nicely. You can use your finger or brushes.
For $2.00 you get 0.19 ounces (5.5 grams) of product.
