Inspired by Michelle’s favorite things, from looks she always wears to colors she can never live without.
em Cosmetics is a new makeup line created by Michelle Phan. The line includes 9 The Life palettes, which each includes 24 eye shadows, 4 blushes, and 8 lip colors, divided up into 4 mini-palettes. This review is for the Love Life palette which includes colors for the following looks: Warm Fuzzies, The Real Me, Girl Time, All Yours.
This palette is very large and comes in a plastic compact with a clear lid. The palette is divided up into 4 sub-palettes, each with a blush color in the center surrounded by eye shadows and lip colors.
You also receive an empty compact, which you can use for on-the-go purposes. The Life Palette comes not only with a duo-ended brush, but also a tool to remove each pan from The Life Palette so that you can transfer the pans of your choosing into the smaller, empty compact.
The Warm Fuzzies colors consist of 3 neutral eye shadows, 3 colored eye shadows, a nude-pink blush with subtle shimmer, a glossy nude lip color, and a matte bright pink lip color.
The Real Me colors consist of all neutral eye shadows, a nude blush with a sheen finish, a glossy nude lip color, and a very bright pink lip color.
The Girl Time colors consist of blue- and pink-toned eye shadows, a pale pink blush, and 2 berry-toned lip colors.
The All Yours colors also consist of blue- and pink-toned eye shadows, but are lighter than those found in Girl Time, a shimmery, pale pink blush that looks more like a highlighter, a clear glossy lip color and a glossy soft red lip color.
The shadows are mixed when it comes to formula quality. Some of the shades (like the first two nude shades in the Warm Fuzzies set) are buttery and smooth, while others are flaky and patchy (like the blue and purple shades in the Girl Time set). Overall, I think the best set (in terms of shadow formula) is the Warm Fuzzies set, and the least impressive is the Girl Time set.
The blushes are all on the sheer side. My favorite is the All Yours blush shade, which I actually use as a highlighter because it’s shimmery and the pigmentation is so pale.
The lip colors are, surprisingly, my favorite part of this palette. There is a mix of glossy and matte shades, opaque and sheer. Although I think there could be more variety in the colors, the formula isn’t sticky and is very pleasant to wear.
Ease of Use: 8/10
The creamy shadow shades glide on smoothly, while the drier or flaky ones require layering and blending. I find that all the blushes require layering to intensify the color. The lip colors glide on smoothly, but the non-matte shades usually need layering.
Another factor that hinders the easy use of this palette is the way the powder products are placed right next to the lip colors. The powder from the blushes and eye shadows consistently get stuck in the lip gloss pans so that you have to scrape off the top of the lip colors before applying them to avoid getting blush or eye shadow pigment on your lips.
For $59.00 you get a total of 0.948 ounces (26.8 grams) of product. Plus, you get a free travel compact with every order of a Life Palette. You’re getting a generous amount of product for the price.
