Company’s Description

Dry skin types have different cleansing needs in order to look and feel their best. Often, the wrong face cleansers are used for the concerns specific to dry skin and as a result, skin does not get the right care it needs. CUSTOMIZED CLEANSING: Garnier CLEAN + Nourishing Cleansing Oil instantly dissolves impurities and long-wear makeup with no greasy residue. SKIN TYPE SPECIFIC CARE: Garnier Clean + Nourishing Cleansing Oil is infused with nourishing jojoba and macadamia oil to help replenish skin’s moisture balance.

This review is for Garnier’s new Cleansing Oil, which is said to dissolve makeup without a greasy residue.

Garnier’s cleansing oil comes in a yellow-tinted, clear, plastic bottle with a pump dispenser.

This, of course, has an oily consistency, but it’s not as thick as, say, olive oil. The product is a mixture of several oils, emollients, and glycerin.

Unlike a normal cleanser, you apply the cleansing oil dry, rubbing it into the skin. After you’ve worked it into the skin for a while, you add a bit of water, then wash the oil off.

The cleansing oil does leave a film behind on the skin. This is ok if you have dry skin, but if you have normal or combination skin, you’ll want to use a cleanser or toner afterward. Of course, if you use a cleanser after, it partially defeats the purpose of using the cleansing oil.

The downside of this formula is that it includes fragrance, which is a skin irritant, and is especially not great when you’re using the cleansing oil in the eye area. At the very least, the cleansing oil is only in contact with your skin for a handful of seconds. But if you’re not washing this cleansing oil away (ie letting the residue stay on the skin), then that fragrance will be lingering on the skin.

The oil does an effective job of removing makeup, including eye makeup. It doesn’t completely remove waterproof mascara, so you’ll still need to do a little bit of removal after cleansing.

Cleaning oils are usually pretty expensive, but this one is very affordable at the $6-$8 price-point.
