This palette contains 15 distinctly cool-toned eye shadows.
Flounce is a very pale, chalky pink with a matte finish.
Sweet Allure is a pale, shimmering pink.
Sun Tweaked is a a very light, shimmery peach. MAC describe this as a coral, but the color is so light that it comes off peach instead of coral.
After Dusk is a shimmering bronze with a rose undertone.
Blackberry is a burgundy-plum brown shade with a matte finish. This doesn’t have as smooth of a formula as the other matte shades in this palette, but layering the color gives you a smooth finish with good color.
Pick Me Up is a matte cream shade.
Cozy Grey is a matte, greyed-taupe.
Crushed Clove is a soft, shimmering, golden-tan.
Deception is a glittery, golden-tan. This shade is one of the most flaky in this palette (alongside Silver Fog).
Brun is a matte, cool-toned brown.
Silver Fog is a very pale grey-silver with a subtly metallic finish. The shade’s glittery particles don’t hold together as well as with this palette’s other shimmering shades.
French Clay is a frosty grey with a frosty finish.
Cumulus is a very cool-toned, grey-brown with a metallic finish.
Pearled Earth is a steel-plum with a metallic finish.
Black Tied is an intense black with silver glitter. This shade produces a good amount of fall-out, but still maintains its opaque quality.
This, like the Warm Neutral Palette, is a high-quality palette with shadows that have a mixture of finishes–from matte to shimmery to metallic–while maintaining a good level of quality across-the-board. There are no “bad” shadows in this palette, although Silver Fog and Deception are not buttery like the other shades, and you’ll need to clean up the fall-out from Black Tied.
Of course, the downside with this palette (as with all MAC palettes), is that not all of the shades are new. In the Cool Neutral palette, there are 4 permanent shades and 1 re-promoted shade, which means there are 10 truly “new” shades. This is more “new” shades than are in the Warm Neutral Palette.
In the worst case scenario, where you already own all the permanent and re-promoted shades, you’re still getting 10 new colors for $100, which means you’d be paying $10.00 for each new shadow. This is much less than what you’d pay by buying the shades individually (which would cost $15.00 each) and costs the same as if you were to buy them in pan form ($10.00 each).
If you don’t have all of the permanent and re-promoted shades, you’re getting an even better deal because you’re paying less than $10.00 for each shadow. And, in the best-case scenario, where you don’t have any of these colors yet, you are paying $6.67 for each shadow–a pretty big steal when it comes it purchasing MAC shadows. So, as long as you’re interested in at least 8 or so of the shades in this palette, it’s worth a purchase.
Analyzed on a dollar-per-gram of product basis, you pay $5.12 per gram of eye shadow. The Urban Decay Naked palettes are $3.33 per gram of product, while the LORAC PRO palette costs $4.77 per gram of product.
