Packaging: 9/10

This quad comes in a rectangular compact made of plastic with a see-through lid that flips-open and snaps shut. The pans are divided into 4 shades, with the Base color having the largest pan and the Lid, Crease, and Liner colors having smaller pans.

Quality: 8.5/10

Chai Latte includes the following 4 shades: a shimmering pale cream, a metallic bronze-copper, a light neutral-to-cool-toned brown with a stain finish, and a milk chocolate brown with small gold shimmer. Although Chai Latte is a classic shade combination in the Maybelline quad line, the colors don’t look exactly the same as the ones from the previous Chai Latte quad. They’re close, but not exact.

The formula for these shadows is on the dry and stiff side. The shadows themselves have good color, but they need some work to smooth out the powder and even-out the finishes. Practically speaking, these eye shadows look very nice on the eyes and the drier formula doesn’t make itself known because the area on the lids and in the crease are small enough to not reveal too much patchiness. These may not have a soft or creamy enough formula for complex looks that require a lot of detail and might not be to the taste of advanced makeup users, but they’re a good fit for everyday looks and most makeup users who are looking for a neutral work-appropriate eye look or neutral smoky eye.

The shadows in this quad began to crease over primer after about 5 hours of wear.

Ease of Use: 8.75/10

The Base color has the most difficult time blending out smoothly over the skin. Although the shadows are drier and stiffer than ideal, they still perform pretty well on application.

Price: 9.25/10

For under $7.00, you get 4 eye shadow colors for a total of 0.17 ounces (4.8 grams) of product. This is a good amount of product for the price.

This kind of disappoints me! I have the older version of Chai Latte and I consider it a “holy grail” status quad in my collection. I’ve hit pan on all four shades. I love that it has TWO MATTE shades…. the taupe and the chocolate brown! Now, why in the world would they change that?? They are super buttery and pigmented. I hope I can find another one of the old version before they’re gone… I suppose I’ll have to settle for this new one, that isn’t too bad… but just not the same. :( So glad you reviewed this… thanks!!

I feel like I have the old version somewhere deep inside the dark caves of my makeup collection… I’ll have to see if it’s still around and compare. I do remember using other quads from the previous line, and they also had a stiffer, drier formula. Is the old Chai Latte better than the other older version quads?

  2. Is it wrong to get this just because of the name? ;) It does look very pretty though!
