Revlon’s new Matte Balms have been added to the ColorBurst line and come in 10 different shades. This review will be for shade #225 Sultry, which is a deep, maroon-tinted red.
If you would like to see photographs and swatches of all 10 matte shades, please see this post.
The Matte Balms come in jumbo pencil form with bases that twist to reveal more product. The packaging is made of matte plastic in the color of the balm inside. The balms twist so that you don’t need to sharpen them.
Sultry is a deep, maroon-tinted red without shimmer. This color is rich and opaque, but still allows the natural texture of your lips to show through.
The texture for this matte balm is slightly powdery and those with dry lips will find they need to apply a balm or gloss on top. Compared to the other Matte Balms, this one felt a little more creamy and moisturizing. The balm has a light peppermint scent without making the lips tingle any significant amount.
The color has great lasting power, in part because the color is bold and deep. After 3-4 hours, when the balm has worn off, it leaves behind a reddish stain for another few hours. If you aren’t eating and drinking, or if you keep a clear gloss applied on top of this balm, the color will last you about 4 hours and will still leave a stain behind on the lips without you having to re-apply.
Ease of Use: 9.5/10
The pencil form allows you to draw onto the lips easily and fairly precisely. If you want a lighter touch of color, dab the pencil very lightly and press your lips together, or press your lips on a paper towel to remove some of the color.
