Power up your pout! Inspired by our newly designed cheek stain, these punched up lip tints impart bold color and shine for a perfect smile all day long.
Tarte’s Spring 2014 Collection features the release of new items in the LipSurgence line–Power Pigments–which are said to give the lips bold color. The 8 shades are inspired by Tarte’s cheek stains. The following shades are depicted and reviewed, below:
- Exposed: nude pink
- Tipsy: sheer coral
- Blissful: warm peach
- Fearless: pink coral
- Blushing Bride: rosy pink
- Flush: sheer berry
- Natural Beauty: sheer rosy red
- True Love: sheer watermelon
These lip balms come in thin pencil form with slide-off caps. Each pencil has a different design and is in the color of the balm inside. These are longer and thinner than the other lip products in the LipSurgence line and, unfortunately, contain much less product.
Exposed is a nude shade with a beige-pink undertone.
Tipsy is a pale coral-pink.
Blissful is a coral-orange/deep peach.
Fearless is a soft pink.
Blushing Bride is a berry red.
Flush is a pink-berry.
Natural Beauty is a warm-toned red.
True Love is a bright red.
All of these colors have good pigmentation, are semi- opaque, and leave a glossy finish on the lips. Some of the shades–Exposed, Tipsy, and Blissful–can emphasize any dry patches you have on your lips.
The Power Pigments have a slightly balm-like texture. They’re not super moisturizing, but they’re not drying either.
Despite Tarte’s claim that these will last all day, they actually only wear for a couple of hours. They’re not transfer-resistant, so they’ll come off quickly through eating or drinking. The bolder/brighter/deeper colors do leave a tint behind on the lips, though.
Ease of Use: 9/10
These are pretty simple to use because of the pencil packaging. I found that they do tug a little at the lips, though, and the smaller size means it takes longer to apply the product compared to the other LipSurgence balms.
The other balms in the LipSurgence line cost $24.00 and contain 0.1 ounces (3 grams) of product. These Power Pigments cost the same amount, but contain 1/3 of the amount of product! Even with the old LipSurgence balms, you were paying more-than-average for the amount of product you were getting. Now, Tarte has tripled the cost by cutting the amount of product by a third, but not giving customers any comparative break on the price. Tisk, tisk.
