A versatile, matte eye shadow palette with six shades in taupe-hued neutrals. Cooler in tone than the original, Naked2 Basics complements Naked2’s palette perfectly. Featuring six taupe-hued matte neutrals, it also includes five never-before-seen shades. Urban Decay’s Pigment Infusion System™, the proprietary blend of ingredients that gives each shade its velvety texture, rich color, serious staying power, and blendability. They’re neutral enough for a range of skin tones—from cool to olive complexions to darker skin—and they’re perfect for creating a neutral matte eye or base eye looks with your favorite bolder shadows. It even has one shadow with a subtle, satin finish (Skimp), which is ideal for highlighting and adding dimension.
Urban Decay’s new Naked2 Basics eye shadow palette is a “matte” eye shadow palette that includes 6 taupe-hued neutral shades in a travel-friendly compact. The palette contains the following shades, which I review and swatch, below:
- Skimp: Pale nude satin
- Stark: Nude-pink matte
- Frisk: Warm gray matte
- Cover: Muted red-brown matte
- Primal: Muted brown matte
- Undone: Deep, smoky brown matte
The Naked2 Basics palette is very compact and small–it fits in the palm of your hand. It’s made of slightly rubbery, muted bronze plastic. It also contains a full-sized mirror inside. This is a great palette for taking on-the-go. It would very easily fit into even a small purse.
Although Urban Decay says this is a matte, taupe-toned palette, I think only Frisk and Cover are really “taupe” toned. Also, Skimp is a shimmery shade, which is really nice to have in an otherwise matte palette.
All of the shades have a lovely, creamy formula. It is super simple to create a neutral eye look because the shades blend nicely and have good color.
For a daytime look, I like to go from left-to-right, using Skimp on the lids and on the brow bone, Stark everywhere between the brow bone and lids, Frisk in the crease, Cover and Primal to deepen the socket and in the outer-V, and Undone as a liner. All of these colors work harmoniously together and look beautiful.
For a more nighttime and smoky look, I’d use Stark and Frisk as transition shades, Skimp in the inner corners to highlight, and Cover, Primal, and Undone as the main crease and lid colors.
Ease of Use: 9.75/10
All of the shadows in this palette have a creamy formula that transfers with good pigmentation.
For $29.00 you’re getting 0.3 ounces of shadow. This is more per ounce than the regular-sized Naked eye shadow palettes, which contain twice the amount of product and cost $54.00.
