An artist-inspired, eye shadow palette with seamless color transitions—offering effortless blending in a single pan. These long-wear, crease-resistant palettes flaunt five richly-pigmented shades in a range of matte to shimmer finishes for an endless array of creative eye looks. The innovative multi-press, three-dimensional design, paired with a fine, creamy texture, achieves a new level of control for blending and picking up pigment.
Hourglass’s new Modernist Eyeshadow Palettes are said to contain artist-inspired, long-wearing, seamlessly-blending, richly-pigmented shades. These eyeshadow palettes each contain 5 shades and have been released in 7 color combinations. This review will be specifically for the Color Field palette, which contains green shades: warm ivory, champagne gold, taupe brown, golden olive, forest green.
The new Modernist palettes come in Hourglass’s classic packaging, and each palette has a mirror inside. The pan has a waved, raised pattern, with each shadow divided diagonally. I would have preferred a clean, straight division between the shades because it’s more difficult to ensure you’re picking up just one shade with the way the palettes are currently designed. But this is a minor inconvenience.
The Color Field palette contains green colors: a satin-finish ivory, a frosty soft gold, a frosty straw-taupe, a frosty golden olive, and a shimmering forest green.
The shades in the Color Field palette are, overall, not quite as “thin” or crumby as the shadows in some of the other Hourglass palettes. The shades initially have good pigmentation too. The formula is still on the soft side, but the shades in the Color Field palette hold up better compared to the other Modernist palette shadows. This means that these shades don’t melt or fade as quickly as the other shades, lasting about 3 hours before the colors start to mesh together. Still, the lack of these shades’ long-wearing ability is disappointing.
You’ll get a diffused look, which some people will love. But anyone who wants to create a more defined look or have precise control over color-placement will likely be frustrated by this formula. The shades will go soft on the lids soon after application and will meld together, even when applied over a primer.
