Lose control in lips painted reckless shades of red and coral, or a flash of gold. Let your eyes escape reality in teal, cobalt mandarin and charcoal, as free-spirited nails glisten in succulent tangerine and the perfect, buttery nude with M∙A∙C Vibe Tribe. Join the tribe. Feel the vibe.
In response to controversy over MAC’s cultural appropriating in creating this collection, the company claims that Vibe Tribe has “no connection to nor was it inspired by the Native American cultures.”
Here are my two cents: I personally do not believe MAC’s claims that this collection derives “no inspiration” from Native American culture. In fact, I find that claim insulting. At best, the claim is entirely ignorant. The NAME of the collection is Vibe TRIBE for goodness sake!
MAC has repeatedly displayed a lack of cultural sensitivity (remember the Juarez collection?) in pursuit of finding ways to create “new” collections and entice customers to continuously buy products, even when the quality or uniqueness of the products don’t justify a customer’s money. Why not at least give some sort of recognition to where these colors, designs, and names come from, rather than not only using a culture and history to gain profits, but also completely denying that the culture provided you with that inspiration!?
